Here’s a truly fun record by a band that strikes a blow for family values in rock ‘n’ roll without being maudlin or hamfisted about it. Daddy Billy plays slide, Mama Jerri beats the drums and Sonny Boy Bryce plays Brewer Phillips-styled rhythm on this high-spirited collection of blues and rock ‘n’ roll-rockabilly numbers. The 12 tunes here are primarily originals with a few bar band favorites (“Train Kept A-Rollin’,” “Boom Boom,” “What’d I Say”) thrown in and it all stomps it right down in the most delightful way. There’s also tracks by them (in various incarnations, more shared Iowa blues community; I’m telling you, this is getting’ me all misty-eyed here.) on the above mentioned Iowa Blues Compilations. Sorta like the average family next door that can kick some major butt on a Saturday night. (Available from the Janeys, P.O. Box 12, Marion, IA 52302)
