Just like fine wine, BilllyLee Janey keeps getting sweeter
with time. This Iowa cat has finesse and style that makes him one of the
top dogs of Midwest guitarists.
Billy gathered a veteran core of musicians for this second solo album. Molly
Nova absolutely kicks ass on the bass, and along with drummer Troy Harper, lays
down a wicked-fine rhythm line.
This is a fun, energetic CD with almost every song (save one) being upbeat in nature. “Magic” is the album opener and is a blueprint for what is to follow- tight, punchy, rockin’ blues songs that have a beginning and an end and a lot of (very old) Custom Telecasters that his solos are almost casual in nature. As musician Randy VanHosen once said, “Billy Janey has forgotten more licks that most guitar players will ever know.”
